DrawPile enables you and your friends to draw on the same canvas simultaneously, over a network. Each user can draw independently, without having to wait their turn. The best part is that everything is very easy to prepare, so everyone can get started right away, without any distractions. What's more, the software provides support for the OpenRaster format, which means that you can send your work further to MyPaint, GIMP, Krita or other painting applications.

The software is available completely free of charge, for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. It can be installed in under a minute, without making any complicated settings. You don't have to sacrifice too many resources or meet any special requirements to run this software.

The user interface presents a wide range of drawing and painting tools, which you would expect to find in any drawing application. You can start with a blank canvas, with a size of your choice or import an image from your local folders and modify it. Besides a pencil, paintbrush, eraser and other basic tools, you can also find options for creating your own palette, layer controls and more.

When it comes to collaborating with other users over a network, you can either host a new session or join an existing one. Hosting a session is quite easy. It is sufficient to click a button on a small window, but you can make other fine tweaks along the way. The session can be password-protected and you can choose to start the session with a blank canvas, a picture or with a solid color. The software comes with its own built-in server, but you can also collaborate through a third party server, which you can specify on the host creation dialog.

While two or more users are connected to the server, they can draw simultaneously on the same canvas or picture, as previously stated. What's more, the software provides a chat environment, on the main window, so you and your partners can communicate easily. The host has a few special privileges, like the ability of locking certain controls, preventing other users from joining and more. Another interesting feature is the possibility of recording sessions. All you have to do is select this option in one of the top menus and specify where to save the recording.

Pros

The software allows multiple users to draw on the same canvas, over a network. It provides a good amount of controls for the host and for the participants. The best part is that hosting and joining a session can be done in just a few seconds.

Cons

Recordings can't be saved in familiar formats, like AVI or MP4. With DrawPile, you and your friends or co-workers can share your drawing skills over a distance, without any kind of difficulties.
